Hyper Turbo Poker Tournaments

How a Hyper Turbo Works

Every tournament has a blind structure: the blinds and antes go up at the end of each level. In a regular event a level lasts 20 to 60 minutes, in a turbo it is shorter, and in a hyper turbo it is shorter still. A super hyper turbo goes even faster. The starting stack is often smaller as well, so players reach the all-in stage within the first hour.

• Single day: most hyper turbos play down to a winner on the same day, often late in the evening as a side event.
• Buy-ins: usually at the lower end of a festival's schedule, with some high roller hyper turbos at the big series.
• Entries: many allow re-entry while late registration is open, which is often until the break or a set level.

How to Play a Hyper Turbo

• Think in big blinds: with fifteen big blinds or fewer, most decisions come down to going all-in or folding before the flop.
• Steal and re-steal: the blinds and antes are worth a lot compared to the stacks, so open and three-bet more often from late position.
• Expect variance: with little room to wait for good spots, luck decides more hands. Budget for several buy-ins rather than one.
• Check the structure sheet: the level length, the starting stack and the late registration close tell you how fast the event will be.
