How a Heads-Up Event Works
- Matches: two players start with equal stacks and play until one has all the chips.
- Bracket: winners advance round by round, like a knockout cup; the field size usually fits a bracket of 16, 32 or 64.
- Byes: when the field does not fill the bracket, some players start in the second round.
How to Play Heads-Up
- Play many hands: with only two players, very wide ranges are correct.
- Adapt to your opponent: you face one player the whole match, so reads matter more than anywhere else.
- Use position: the button is the small blind and acts first before the flop, last after it.
