Omaha Poker Tournaments

The Rules in Short

• The deal: every player gets four hole cards (five in five-card Omaha).
• Betting rounds: the same as in hold'em: before the flop, the flop, the turn and the river.
• The hand: exactly two hole cards and exactly three community cards. This is the most common mistake of new players: one ace in your hand and four hearts on the board is not a flush.
• Pot-limit: a bet or raise can be at most the size of the pot.

Variants

• Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO): the standard game with four cards.
• Five-Card Omaha (PLO5): five hole cards, still using exactly two. Hands are stronger and draws more common.
• Omaha Hi-Lo: the pot is split between the best high hand and the best qualifying low hand (eight or better).
• Big O: five-card Omaha Hi-Lo.

Courchevel and Drawmaha are Omaha-based games with their own guides.

How Omaha Differs from Hold'em

With four or five cards each, players make strong hands more often, so a hand that wins in hold'em, such as top pair or a small flush, is often second best in Omaha. Draws to straights and flushes have many outs, and the pots get big quickly even with the pot-limit cap.

Omaha Tournaments in Asia

Large festivals in the region add PLO and PLO5 events to their schedule, and some run Omaha high rollers. The lists on this page come from our festival database.
