Is Live Poker Legal in Macau?
Legal, LicensedCasino gaming in Macau is run by six concessionaires (MGM, Galaxy, Venetian/Sands, Melco, Wynn and SJM) under ten-year concessions that started on 1 January 2023, following the 2022 amendment of the gaming law (Law 16/2022), and is supervised by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). Poker variants such as Texas Hold'em are authorised casino games but may only be played inside the concessionaires' casinos. Poker takes up very little floor space: in April 2026 only 46 poker tables were operating, and only The Venetian Macao and MGM Cotai ran permanent poker rooms after Wynn Macau closed its room in early 2026.[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
- Minimum age to enter a casino is 21.
- Six concessionaires hold ten-year concessions from 1 January 2023.
- Poker is an authorised casino game but only inside licensed casinos.
- Permanent poker rooms in 2026: The Venetian Macao and MGM Cotai; Wynn Macau's room has been closed since early 2026.
- MGM Cotai hosts the MGM Poker Tournament series several times a year.
- A cap on total gaming tables and operators' preference for baccarat are cited as reasons for the small poker offer.

- Licensed casinos of the six concessionaires
- Permanent poker rooms at The Venetian Macao and MGM Cotai

Is Online Poker Legal in Macau?
IllegalMacau has never licensed online casino games or online poker, and officials have said regulating online gaming is not on the legislative agenda. The Law to Combat Crimes of Illegal Gambling (Law 20/2024), in force from 29 October 2024, punishes anyone who operates, promotes or organises online gambling without authorisation with 1 to 8 years in prison, even when the servers are outside Macau. The same law punishes anyone who plays illegal games of chance with up to 6 months in prison or a fine; how this applies to people playing on offshore websites is not settled. Advertising that directly promotes games of chance is prohibited under Law 7/89/M.[6, 7, 8]
