The Field
Day 1 ran over three flights from September 24 to 26, with 185, 141 and 178 entries in the official counts. The final 527 entries built a prize pool of AUD 2.42 million (~US$1.75 million), with no guarantee, and 66 places were paid. Home players took 54 of those cashes. The field was 73 entries smaller than the 600 of the 2025 Championship Event.
The Winner
Before this event, Thompson's recorded results added up to about US$3,300. His best was 24th place in the Australian Poker Cup earlier in the same festival, for about US$2,500. The Championship gave him his first recorded title and lifted his live earnings tracked by Asia Poker Hub since 2024 to about US$328,800. He follows another Australian, Alan Pham, who won the 2025 title for AUD 558,211.
The Festival
The rest of the three-week series, including the larger Prime Championship field, is covered in WPT Australia 2026 by the Numbers. The 2025 results are on the WPT Australia 2025 results page, and other stops are on the World Poker Tour (WPT) calendar.
